Governor Charlie Crist signed an executive order giving tax relief to protect Palm Beach County property owners.
Rep. Sachs Speaking with Gov Crist

Florida homes and business owners in Palm Beach County whose property lost value due to the oil spill can now make a claim against BP to recover part of the tax bill. The Property Appraiser is allowed to offer property owners a reassessment of the value of their property.

When the leadership of the Florida legislature failed to act on behalf of property owners in Florida, the Governor took action and issued his executive order. British Petroleum will be responsible for paying the difference in taxes, rather than the cash-strapped counties that have been most affected by the oil spill. Anyone whose commercial or personal property has been adversely affected by the oil spill should contact the office of the Property Appraiser.
