Senate Bill 420, sponsored by Senator Sachs, received overwhelming support as it passed through its first committee, the Criminal Justice Committee.  The bill will be heard next in the Judiciary Committee.  SB 420 would allow a judge discretion to depart from minimum mandatory sentencing for a first-time offender charged with possession of prescription medications, under certain circumstances.

Senate Bill 370, also sponsored by Senator Sachs, was voted for unanimously in its first committee assignment, the Regulated Industries Committee.  The bill revises procedures for the reporting and disposition of unclaimed human remains and prohibits the buying, selling, or transmitting of the remains.
