Senator Sachs always has and continues to support senior arcades and family amusement centers. A year ago, lawmakers hurriedly passed a law shutting down internet cafes in response to a multi-state investigation into Allied Veterans of the World, a bogus charity accused of running an illegal gambling ring throughout the state. The law also shut down adult arcades frequented by seniors across the State.

During a hearing on a bill proposal dealing with family amusement centers Senator Sachs asked whether the proposed law would apply to senior arcades, many of which shut down after the internet cafe ban was passed last year. “How about those kids that are 80, 85, and 90?” she asked. Senator Sachs has been steadfast in her attempts to shed light on the difference between the senior arcades and the internet cafes fraudulently posing as charities. As Vice Chair of the Gaming Committee, Senator Sachs intends to file an amendment to ensure the future of this important recreational outlet for the people of District 34.
