When it comes to the gaming and gambling industry in the State of Florida, I understand the importance of creating and implementing a single regulatory authority in the form of an all-encompassing gaming commission (specifically a “Florida Department of Gaming”), a responsible step taken by other states in the U.S. that also have a significant gaming and gambling presence such as Nevada and New York and Massachusetts. At the moment, three separate departments (being the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and Department of Lottery) oversee gaming and gambling operations in Florida, but I believe the job would best be handled by a single unifying agency.
>Having one department to oversee the entire gaming and gambling market in Florida as opposed to three makes common sense in and of itself.
>If I am successful in my efforts, all forms of gambling would be combined under a “Florida Department of Gaming,” eliminating inefficiencies and inconsistencies that would otherwise be present under the current system whereby three different departments oversee Florida gaming and gambling activities.
>Especially in light of the recent announcement of a 20-year gaming compact between the State of Florida and the Seminole Tribe of Florida that has made Florida’s gaming industry much more complicated than it has been in the past, I believe that we need a gaming commission in the form of a “Florida Department of Gaming” now more than ever.
