Senator Sachs was asked by the Senate Democratic Caucus to be part of a Criminal Justice working group.  The Senator’s background as a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney in the State of Florida gives her a unique perspective among legislators.  The Criminal Justice working group is tasked with discussing issues and formulating policy heading into the legislative session.

Some of issues considered included:

  • Response to Department of Correction’s proposal to begin reopening prisons and work camps because of the anticipated increase in the number of individuals being sentenced to prison
  • Caucus idea to  decriminalize nonviolent criminal offenses
  • Smart Justice initiatives
